José Antonio Garci Nieto

Mexico City, Mexico, 1967.

He graduated in Graphic Communication from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and he also obtained a Master's degree in Art History from the School of Philosophy and Arts of the same university.
He started getting published as cartoonist when he was 16 years old in several Mexican newspapers and magazines. He is a member of the Mexican Society of Cartoonists since 1990. As an editorial cartoonist, he has worked for more than 15 years in the Mexican newspaper El Financiero, and his works are also published in La Revista del Universal, and in the magazines Cambio, Maxim, and Teleguía. He also designs cartoons and puppets for the show Hechos de peluche ('Made of Plush'), broadcasted as part of a news program. He also participates as writer in the show. In radio and television, he has taken part in several shows since 1980, specially together with comedian Andrés Bustamante. He has also worked in other shows, such as Al Derecho y al Dervez ('Inside and Ourside'), La Parodia ('The Parody'), El Informal ('The Informal')...
He has written and directed several theatrical comedies, as well as two animation films: La Leyenda de Nahuala ('Legend of Nahuala') and Nikté. He has several books published; Sex Zoo (1995), Historias infames ('Infamous Stories') (2000), El huevo y quién lo puso ('The Egg and Whoever Laid it') (2006), Porqué las mujeres aman a los pendejos ('Why Women Love Dumb Men') (2008), Manual de etiqueta para pendejos 1 ('Guide to Etiquette for Dumb Men, volume 1') (2009), and Dos siglos de caricatura parlamentaria en México ('Two Centuries of Parliamentary Caricature in Mexico') (2009).
Among the awards received, the most remarkable are: the National Journalism Award (1995), the Award from the International Salon of Press Drawings in Porto Alegre, Brazil (1996), the Cartoon Award “Domingo Pérez Piña”, Campeche (2006 and 2008), or the Journalism Award from the Assembly of Representatives of Mexico City, category of cartoon (1999).
